At Jurassic Childcare we promote good health of all children in the setting. To help keep children healthy and minimise infection, we follow a strict sickness and illness policy. We do not expect children to attend nursery if they are unwell.
We understand that if a child is unwell it is in their best interest to be in a home environment with adults they know well, rather than at nursery. Below we have compiled a guide to let you know when your child should stay at home.
When your child should stay at home and visit a doctor
-
When their temperature is above 37.5°C
-
If they experience vomiting or diarrhoea
-
If spots appear on their hands, feet, or mouth area
-
If they develop chicken pox
-
If they have conjunctivitis
-
If they have an ear infection
-
If they develop impetigo
-
If they have been given Calpol before nursery
As a small nursery we follow our own guidance and policies, to make sure that children, families and staff are protected as much as possible from sickness and illness.
When your child can come in
-
Once their temperature has returned to normal for a period of 24 hours
-
48 hours after their last sickness and diarrhoea
-
Once spots have crusted over
-
48 hours after taking antibiotics

We believe that parents and staff need to work together in a close partnership in order for children to receive the quality of care and early learning to meet their individual needs. We welcome parents as partners and support a two-way sharing of information that helps establish trust and understanding. We are committed to supporting parents in an open and sensitive manner to include them as an integral part of the care and early learning team within the nursery.
The key person system supports engagement with all parents and will use strategies to ensure that all parents can contribute to their child's leaning and development. Parents contribute to initial assessments of children's starting points on entry and they are kept well informed about their child's progress. Parents are encouraged to support and share information about their children's learning and development at home. The key person system ensures all practitioners user effective, targeted strategies and interventions to support learning that match children's individual needs.
For more information please visit our parents as partners policy.
Potty training can be a challenging task for all parents and carers. That's why we've created this informational segment where you can find all the information and links you will need to be successful at potty training.
NHS Advice
The NHS says "using a potty is a new skill for your child to learn, it's best to take it slowly and go at your child's pace. Being patient with them will help them get it right, even if you sometimes feel frustrated."
Find out more about NHS advise on potty training.
Eric's Guide to Potty Training
Eric's guide to potty training is a leaflet that helps parents and carers to recognise when their child is ready to start toilet training, how to prepare them for it, and what to do to make it a success.
